The month of April – May, Summer Vacations and stadiums full of crickets fans supporting their favorite IPL teams. This used to be a routine every year but that’s not the case with the very unique 2020.
We have already lost the summer season in which IPL is organised every year. The next option now is to organise it in the October – November window.
But even if we succeed to organise it by October, there’s a new concept that BCCI might need to implement. The concept is ” IPL behind closed doors “.
The whole thinking behind this is to maintain the social distancing rules while making sure that we don’t have to cancel the event in 2020.
What if IPL actually takes place behind closed doors?
The atmosphere we are so used to, the noise of the audience, the pressure moments and the cheers going on throughout the games, all these things will be missed badly.
Till now we have seen mixed reactions for this concept. While players like Pandya and Rahane have supported it on the other hands experts like Madan Lal have opposed the concept. Players like Cummins and Harbhajan have also shared positive views for the concept.
The idea behind this concept is that the cricket lovers should atleast enjoy the game from home. While also this will allow a few youngsters to not miss their golden opportunity to showcase their talent to the world.
Also their are two more theories going on ->
1. Shortened IPL i.e with lesser number of matches.
2. IPL without foreign players.
In the present scenario it’s really difficult to predict how things will go but one thing is for sure people are waiting eagerly for IPL.
Amidst all this negativity, IPL can surely be a ray of positivity.
Do share your opinion about the closed door concept.

I don’t think IPL behind closed doors should happen. I think players’ safety should be the top priority. And IPL won’t have the same feel like it has. I don’t think we will like to watch it.
And BCCI should not worry about money. It is the richest cricketing board that exist in this world.

Yes, it won’t have the same feel like always. And that’s the biggest dilemma whether to completely cancel it or organise it at a small level.

Circumstances right now does not favour holding the tournament even at a small level. But now it’s up to the higher ups to decide the next course of action. Let’s see what they say.

Good content. Sport matches are probably going to be conducted without any fans and this is good as Corona may increase if fans are there, but what about stadium atmosphere?

Yeah, we are certainly going to miss the atmosphere but probably that’s the only option available on near future…

Well it wouldn’t be enjoyable to have ipl behind closed doors but that’s for safety reasons

Yeah, that’s the only way possible to organize IPL this year.

I was a huge cricket fan growing up in Australia, as a young girl I would watch for hours and my father would be perplexed by my interest. He loved soccer! I never thought we would come to this place of potential matches and empty, silent stands. But it still is preferable to no live cricket at all …. and we can scream with excitement in our homes!

Yeah, I understand the level of passion Australians have for cricket.
And for the global cricket fans, the only option is to atleast get a chance to watch live cricket which is only possible in closed door conditions.

Well, in my opinion, the best thing about IPL is watching how players from different countries go on doing their business collectively. Even though, it sounds like a good change, I think skipping this year would be the ideal thing to do.

Yeah, it might actually get skipped this year as the things haven’t improved yet….

I’m not really a fan of any sports except for the finals. I love watching the finals.
I think it would somewhat cheer up people inside thier homes, to be able to witness a live tournament. 😁

Yeah, in these times it would be a real boost to get to see some live sports even if it’s just on Television..

I’m sincerely hoping that it can at least take place behind closed doors but IPL does lose part of its charm without foreigners.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Exactly, foreign players are very important for IPL. However, it’s still not clear whether they will be available for the closed door version or not.

I hope they are available if IPL ends up happening. I too run a sports blog (mainly cricket) if you wanna check it out
