Shafali Verma – The Brightest Young Star Of Women’s Cricket

As a girl you see your brother falling sick and not able to play for his side. You end up deciding playing in place of him in a boys team.

Eventually, you don’t just play in place of him, you end up getting the Man Of The Series Award too.

It doesn’t end here. You eventually end up breaking the record of God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar by becoming the youngest Indian to score an international half century only at the age of 15.

Have you ever heard a better fairytale than this??

But that’s not fiction that’s the real life story of our very own Shafali Verma.

Coming from a small town of Rohtak and being a girl not getting a single Women’s Cricket Academy to improve her skills it was never easy for Shafali to break into the Indian Side.

The best part about her journey is that she actually played most of her cricket with guys. She eventually cut her hair for that too.

Being part of Indian Women’s Team for WT 20 just at the age of 16 is a great achievement, something that looks surreal.

But people who witnessed her game in Australia would tell you how dangerous she was for each and every opponent. Australia lost their opening match to our girls which was a phenomenal start for us.

The Mighty Australian Team in Australia didn’t want to face her as they were aware of the massacre she was capable of doing. This shows her impact on the game.

She has hardly played for an year now and has already gotten to the top of ICC rankings for batswoman in T20s.

The history of cricket would tell you that every champion team had flamboyant players like Shafali Verma. Whether it was Sir Viv Richards, Sehwag or Jayasuriya. Their hitting ability was crucial for their respective sides.

Team India has consistently played well for the last 4-5 years but what’s missing is an ICC trophy.

Teams like Australia and England have always ruled Women’s Cricket. Team India even on being the contenders have missed very close close opportunities in the last two ICC tournaments.

Inclusion of Shafali Verma has given this team that fearlessness that’s highly important for any Champion Side.

The likes of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur gives you the strength and experience needed. This is the kind of combination we badly needed in our side since ages.

Who can forget the tears of young Shafali when India lost to Australia in the crucial final of WT20 2020.

We don’t want our girls to have such moments again and for that the only thing needed is more exposure. One good option is to start Women’s IPL which is in discussion for quite some time now.

So, all the readers out there, if you haven’t seen her bat go check some videos on YouTube.
