IPL 2020 is here and the tournament has brought all the excitement that it always brings.
But what’s that one strange thing that we always associate with IPL??
Strange Team Selections!!!
There’s some romantic connection between IPL and Strange Team Selections.
13 years back cricket pandits couldn’t figure out why is it so, and they cannot figure it out even now.
Let’s discuss a few strange selections this season :
1. Imran Tahir sitting out for 4 consecutive matches ->
Who was the biggest match winner for CSK in the last two seasons??
I believe it was Imran Tahir as he was not just the highest wicket taker, but he also took the most important wickets at crucial times.
CSK have lost 3 matches in a row and still there are no signs of Imran Tahir getting a game.
MS Dhoni is still backing Watson who hasn’t performed in the first 4 games and wasn’t good in last season either.

2. Mujeeb Ur Rehman not getting a game yet ->
Mujeeb is one of the finest exponents of spin bowling at the global level.
He has always performed exceptionally well in IPL too.
KXIP are playing well but haven’t seized crucial moments so far.
3. Ishan Kishan not getting chance in first two games for MI ->
Ishan Kishan has always performed brilliantly for MI and got some crucial runs.
However, Saurabh Tiwari got chance ahead of him.
Ishan struck 99 right in his first innings.
4. CSK not making any replacements for Raina & Harbhajan ->
CSK lost it’s two match winners in Raina and Bhajji even before the start of this season.
Interestingly, they haven’t called for a replacement yet.
5. KKR’s weird Team Combination ->
KKR is playing with a very weak batting line up as they have Cummins, Narine and Russell in their top 7.
Dinesh Karthik is out of form and the only guy scoring well as of now is Shubhman Gill.
There are a few more strange selections.
Players like Ish Sodhi not getting picked by any team.
Manoj Tiwari played really well for Pune in 2018 but hasn’t got any team for two consecutive years.
There have been quite some instances when quality bolwers like Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma and Khaleel Ahmed have been left out of the squad for some strange reasons.
IPL is strange, IPL is unique.
It has been so for the last 13 years and it will remain so forever.
This is the biggest USP of IPL and that’s why we fans love it. Isn’t it??

Imran tahir is injured and for KKR their batting lineup is good but order is not fixed, tripathi should open, he performed great for RPS it will bring a good balance. And one think u should have mentioned is uthappa getting wasted in middle order he should open alongside jos, Smith and Samson to follow.

Meeth, completely accept that Uthapa is getting wasted completely but looks like Smith has decided to open throughout the season!!

Strange cricket these days and so is cricket. Somehow this post reminded me of the Golden days of cricket when it was so simple and players played for the purpose of sportsmanship. These days it’s so commercialized. Specially since women got involved in commentary etc it seems so artificial. Ab wo maza nahin raha na cricket mein na aur kisi cheez mein.
