Hi Guys,
Just a few days back Indian Team faced a miserable batting collapse where they got bundled out for a mere 36 run total in their second innings at the Adelaide Oval in the Pink Ball Test.
Who would have imagined that India will go on to win the Boxing Day test match in such a dominating manner in the Border – Gavaskar Trophy.
Specially, considering the fact that Stalwart Virat Kohli had left the team for the birth of his first child.
It was a victory well led by Ajinkya Rahane both with the bat and as a leader.

His knock of 112 will get a place in the record books but something that needs to be equally admired is his leadership throughout the test.
The bowling changes, field placement and all other strategies were right on the mark.
He was by far the best performer and thus was declared the Man of the Match and also got his name mentioned on MCG honor board for getting the ton.

He got great contributions from debutants Shubhman Gill and Mohammed Siraj.

Gill was good in both the innings with his knocks of 45 and 35* runs.
While Siraj took crucial wickets in both the innings getting 5 scalps in total.
But why is this victory so crucial??
1. Absence of Key Players
This victory was crucial keeping in mind that we were 4 players short of our best XI.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma were missing out on this match.
2. Adelaide Test Defeat
Team India were in a commanding position in Adelaide Test as well. But they got bundled up for just 36 runs in second innings.
This was a huge blow for the confidence of Indian Team.
Thus, this victory will always be remembered as one of the best comebacks in the history of cricket.
India got a crucial 104 runs partnerships from Rahane and Jadeja which proved to be vital for this victory.
Jadeja was quite handy with the ball as well.
Along with him Ashwin, Bumrah and Siraj too were quite capable of creating the pressure on Aussie Batsmen.
Australian batting in the last two tests has been really vulnerable. They depend a lot on Steve Smith and David Warner.
While Warner is still not fit, Steve Smith is not looking in good touch as he has got only 10 runs in 3 innings with an average of 3.33.
These are all good signs for India.
Can they keep the momentum going and eventually grab the series ??
Let’s see in the remaining two test matches.

Rahane did an admirable job in leading India, but that has led to so many people saying that he should be given the captaincy instead of Kohli. I felt this was kinda unfair as people aren’t seeing his achievements, they are just seeing the last few months, where he hasn’t performed. What do you think?

Heyy Riddhi,
India is a country where people always throw there opinions even when they don’t have much knowledge about the topic.
Rahane did a great job but at the same time Virat is a brilliant leader specially in Test format.
His achievements speak for him….

Team India really looked agressive in this match. They looked all pumped up which I think is really important in Australia…..Besides, as you said despite so many injuries especially in the fast bowling department and the absence of Kohli , India won this match …Its truly historic…. People might say anything but the beauty of test cricket is of a next level altogether…….also who knew that Ashwin would have the highest wickets in the first 2 matches(alongside Cummins)..after 36 all out this win was one of the best comebacks I have seen…

Lavanya, your insights are always accurate. This was indeed a historic turn around for Team India.
Ashwin is definitely keeping Australian Batsmen under pressure specially Steve Smith.

Yes..you do admire steve smith as a cricket fan but when you have Border Gavasker Trophy you can’t help but want Smith to have a poor form.

Yes, even I really don’t want him to fire. Specially, if Warner also makes a comeback.

Rahane is amazing. Till now he is unbeatable. Hope this streak continue. Virat is a excellent player,no doubt in it but In terms of captaincy Rahane is more feasible
