Yet another Test Series and Team India has again shown us how to make a comeback.
They have now become habitual of making such comebacks as they did in the recently concluded Border – Gavaskar Trophy where they went on to grab the series 2-1 after losing the first test.
They lost first test match against Australia in Pune in 2017 and ended up winning the series 2-1.
In the first test match, at the same venue i.e. Chepauk, Team India were down and out.
England came up with a mighty score of 578 in the first innings getting a contribution of 218 from Skipper Joe Root.
A victory by 227 runs and England held their head high specially keeping in mind that tracks will become easier from here onwards.
Pink Ball always supports pacers and Team England evidently have the best pace attack.
James Anderson, bowled beautifully specially in second innings on a rank turner.
Thus, this victory, in the second test is very crucial.
As the team was down, the experienced campaigners stood up and performed beautifully.
Whether it was Rohit Sharma‘s knock of 161 or the support he got from Ajinkya Rahane who went on to get a well fought 67 or Virat Kohli‘s 62 in second innings.
But, it was the local boy, Ravichandran Ashwin, who raised his performance, more importantly in batting.
Since 2017, he hasn’t got a single half century but in this game on a track which was termed “difficult to bat“, he got a brilliant century.
He also picked up fifer in the first innings making sure that Team India gets a healthy first innings lead.
His battle with the best all-rounder, Ben Stokes was amazing as each delivery was an event where he kept asking him difficult questions.
Stokes kept fighting but eventually fell twice against him. Interestingly, Ash has got his wicket 10 times throughout his career.
Along with him, the debutant, Axar Patel was quite handy with the ball.
His five wicket hall in the second innings didn’t allow English Batsmen to relax even a bit.
Rishabh Pant as always was dangerous with the bat but the point worth noticing was his keeping skills.
He didn’t only two brilliant catches but also made two terrific stumpings.
This series now stands on 1-1.
It’s results are really crucial as they will decide the second finalist who will play against New Zealand in the World Test Championship final.
India, England and Australia are aiming the second finalists spot.
It will be quite interesting to see how things go on from here.
