IPL 2021 : Preview

Hello guys,

For the first time in history IPL is back just after months courtesy of the delay caused by Covid – 19 Pandemic in 2020.

Even though we’re into a new season, we’re still surrounded with terms like Pandemic, Bio – Bubble and Closed Door Matches.

Things still haven’t improved but the biggest positive is the return of IPL in India even if it would be without audience.

Even though IPL is back in India, there are some big challenges in front of the administration.

We’ve already seen a few Positive Covid cases.

Nitish Rana was the first to test positive for the virus.

After that, Devdutt Padikkal, Axar Patel and Daniel Sams have been found positive.

Axar Patel & Devdutt Padikkal are among the first few players tested positive for the virus

There have been a few positive cases in other staff as well. There’s a possibility that a few more positive cases may come in the next few days.

Mumbai has become a Covid Hotspot these days and has to host 10 matches in the initial phase which rises certain concerns.

Conditions are not good in Delhi and Bangalore either which will make things even more difficult.

A few players like Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Marsh opt out of the tournament citing Bio – Bubble fatigue.

But what about the teams??

What can we expect from this season??

This is going to be the first ever IPL in India in which there won’t be any home advantage for the teams.

Like all the previous editions, teams are not playing in their home grounds this season.

While Chennai Super Kings play their majority of matches in Mumbai, teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians will play their matches in Chennai.

This makes the equation quite interesting as permutations and combinations for teams have changed drastically. They’ll have to think twice before sticking to a particular strategy based on a particular venue.

This will eventually make the tournament even more interesting as home advantage has been completely removed.

It would be interesting to see how the IPL Auction and purchase of the new players will affect this season.

There had been some really interesting buys whether it’s Maxwell and Jamieson for RCB or Morris for RR.

Glenn Maxwell

While CSK had roped spinners like Moeen Ali and K. Gowtham at some serious price, team like PBK got pacers in Jhye Richardson and Meredith.

Let’s see how things begin just after few hours from here….

So guys, what’s your prediction??

What do you think about your favorite team’s chances this season??

  1. Hi there! I am not sure of ipl, (as sure a 13 year old can bešŸ˜œ) but when World Cup is around the corner, thatā€™s the time when me and my dad bring out the snacks, and watch the games non stop! It is such a fun time and hoping to learn from your posts….

  2. I heard on the BBC ( satellite radio) that the IPL had to be cancelled due to Covid outbreaks among some of the players who were supposed to be in safe “bubbles”. Also that since there are not flights from India allowed in some countries the players from Australia cannot get home. I was thinking of you and your blog when I heard about this. What a sad situation. Is there any hope it can be postponed? I know the situation with Covid is very difficult in India and my heart goes out to all the people there.

    1. Heyy Anne,
      Hope you’re doing well.
Yes, the IPL has been postponed and the administration is looking for scheduling it in the later part of this year.
Australian players, as of now have moved to Maldives and will go back to their homes after spending a few days there.
