Cricket History has witnessed some seriously strong squads over the time.
But have you ever seen a nation field two squads simultaneously at a time against two different teams in two different countries??
What comes into your mind when we say the term “The Strongest Cricket Team” ??
West Indies of 80s ??
Australia of 2000s ??
None of them ever played their two squads simultaneously.
This shows how big a feat this is….
Pakistan’s legendary Batsmen and Ex Captain Inzamam Ul Haq also admired this fact.
“ This idea of assembling a second Indian team is very interesting. What India are trying to do today, Australia did this years ago, but they were not able to be successful in it. India appear to be pulling it off. For the first time I think it is happening that a national cricket team will be playing two different series. One side in one country and the other side in some other country, and both are national teams ”
Clearly, Indian Team has dominated World Cricket for the last 10-12 years but what they’re going to do now is surreal.
How’s this so important?? What message does it give to World Cricket??
1. It clearly shows the bench strength we have. We actually have at least 30 players ready to play at the highest level.
2. It’s not just an experiment but a very well planned move. We’re going to play against champion teams like New Zealand and England.
We’ll definitely need our strongest eleven for the World Test Championship Final and then for the test series against England.
Still, we’ve enough players to play a complete series in Sri Lanka.
3. It shows the impact Indian Premier League has created on Indian Cricket.
Even the deadliest of teams never had the courage to use two squads at the same time but IPL has made our youngsters so good at pressure handling that international matches don’t worry them at all.
The pressure situations that they face in a tournament like IPL has molded them enough to handle anything and everything on the cricket field.
4. The way Rahul Dravid has coached and nurtured young Indian cricketers is exceptional.
He is the coach of India Under-19 and India-A squads for quite some time now but for the first time he’ll be travelling with the senior squad as coach in Sri Lanka.
Indian Cricket fans are really excited so see how this two squad thing works.
India will play New Zealand in the World Test Championship Final and then a five test match series against England.
India’s squad: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Md. Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul and Wriddhiman Saha.
Standby players: Abhimanyu Easwaran, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Arzan Nagwaswalla
The Squad for the Sri Lanka tour is yet to be announced.
Shikhar Dhawan might lead that side.
Selectors have a tough task ahead of them and need to create a real good combination in the absence of some key faces.
