Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders, three teams that share 11 IPL trophies within them have not been able to make any impact this season.
While Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are placed at the bottom of the table, Kolkata Knight Riders are also struggling after a good start this season.
Cricket fans are amazed to witness such a downfall of these champion sides just after the mega auction.
So what’s the reason behind this failure. Let’s have a close look :
1. Spending too much amount on a Single Player :
CSK bought Deepak Chahar for 14 crores in the auction while MI spent 15.25 crores for Ishan Kishan.

Shreyas Iyer was bought for 12.25 crores as well.
Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the complete tournament due to back injury.
On the other hand, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer haven’t delivered as per their respective price tags.
2. Failure of Key Retained Players :
Mumbai Indians are struggling due to the bad form of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan.

Chennai Super Kings are missing the heroics of Sir Jadeja while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali have also not delivered as expected.
Out of form Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer have already been dropped out of the main XI.
The core strategy of these champion sides revolved around these retained players.
But their failure has made things look really ugly for their respective sides.
3. Weak bowling line-up :
Teams like Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad are leading the points table just because if strong bowling line-ups.
On the other hand, CSK, MI and KKR have failed to field a strong bowling unit yet.
While Dwayne Bravo looks the only effective option for CSK, Jasprit Bumrah has proved to be the lone warrior for MI.
KKR have got enough output from Umesh Yadav and Sunil Narine but are not getting enough support from other bowlers.
It’ll be interesting to see how these champion sides will make a comeback and what kind of strategy can help them do better in the next editions of Indian Premier League.
What do you guys think about the future of these sides??
